22 September 2017
On 12 September, two of our partners, Liz Perks and Vikki Wall, delivered an insightful training session as part of the Equal Representation in Arbitration (ERA) Pledge Quantum Experts Seminar Series. This series of accounting and valuation training events, delivered by leading female quantum experts, is designed to support lawyers, at all levels, in understanding quantum and valuation in litigation and arbitration.
Vikki explained: “From our own analysis of public ICSID awards over the past ten years where damages were awarded, only eight out of 176 named quantum experts were female. It was therefore a great opportunity for Liz and I to be involved in an event supported by the ERA Pledge.”
Liz and Vikki were joined by Kathryn Britten and Diane Hughes of AlixPartners, to present the second seminar of the series: “Valuation Basics”.
The seminar began with Kathryn and Diane covering topics such as what gets valued, why we value, what we mean by value, features of valuation and how we value. Liz and Vikki followed by introducing key formulae with an engaging exercise and covering the differences between enterprise and equity value, the main valuation approaches (income, market and cost) and finally, considerations when instructing experts on valuation matters. The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session after which there was networking, drinks and canapes.
Haberman Ilett would like to thank Debevoise & Plimpton for hosting the event, and specifically to Wendy Miles and Aimee-Jane Lee for their ongoing support of the seminar series.
If you missed out on this seminar and your litigation or arbitration team is interested in hearing about “Valuation Basics”, please get in touch to find out what our “Accounting for Lawyers” training team can provide.
