With the start of a new year, I take the opportunity to reflect on what has been an exciting twelve months for Haberman Ilett.
2016 was a year in which the firm continued to flourish. The team has expanded to 40 fee earners, three of our associates were promoted to senior associate and Vikki Wall, one of our founding members, was made a partner. We took on 32 new cases compared to 23 in 2015. My partners and I believe that this sustained growth and success is a reflection of the focus and dedication of each member of the team.
We continue to enjoy working on a wide variety of cases, and are proud of the broadening experience of our technical staff. Valery Knyazev, Bruno Augustin and Liz Perks acted as experts a total of 15 times, with Valery giving evidence in court on three occasions. Bruno was asked to contribute to a panel on ‘Expert Evidence in Competition Litigation Actions’ at the CDR Competition Litigation Symposium and has co-authored articles in The Strategic View: Competition Litigation 2016 and in Competition Law Insight. And in between Liz’s expert appointments she continues to champion the work of female experts, litigators and arbitrators.
Bruno, Liz and Valery were acknowledged as leading experts by Who’s Who Legal and Philip Haberman was, again, named the most highly regarded individual in Who’s Who Legal’s Arbitration Expert listing.
2016 saw the launch of our CSR initiative. We are now proud partners with Visionpath Education, a social enterprise that aims to help young people gain the skills they need for a successful future. We also support Thrive, a charity that uses gardening to enable positive changes in the lives of disabled people.
We enjoyed meeting new contacts and strengthening established relationships, providing accounting training to our contacts at a London-based law firm, hosting two informative events as part of our growing Women’s Network, watching Djokovic at the ATP Tennis and attending the Chelsea Flower Show. Our 5-a-side football team is also establishing itself as a force to be reckoned with, putting in respectable performances in each of its matches this year.
We look forward to another busy and successful year and, on behalf of us all, I wish all our contacts a happy and prosperous 2017.
